Lodge Description
Purpose
We take responsibility for pumping and maintaining 15 of Hwange’s boreholes in the Concession to sustain its wildlife, especially in winter when water sources become scarce.
Place
Davison’s Camp is situated in a remote, wildlife-rich corner of Hwange National Park. Named after the founder of Hwange National Park and its first warden, Ted Davison, the camp overlooks an extremely productive waterhole that attracts a variety of plains game and predators. Game drives and nature walks explore the private concession.
Overview
Nestled discreetly beneath a grove of false mopane trees, Davison's is located in the private Linkwasha Concession - one of the most prolific wildlife areas in Hwange National Park. Hidden within a treeline, this classic African safari camp, overlooks an open plain and a waterhole that is a favourite drinking spot for elephant and buffalo.
Wildlife
Hwange’s mix of different veld and landscape types means that game viewing is productive year round. Wildlife frequently encountered in our area includes lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, spotted hyaena, giraffe, sable, roan, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck. In summer, wildebeest, zebra and eland are found in abundance on the open plains, while in winter elephant congregate in enormous numbers around the waterholes. Birdlife in the area is prolific (400+) and varied.
Activities
• Day and night game drives in 4 x 7-seater open 4x4 Toyota Hiluxes. During winter months hot water bottles (on early morning game drives only), blankets and lined ponchos are provided.
• A pair of Olympus binoculars is available in each of the game drive vehicles for guests to share amongst themselves whilst game viewing and may be requested from our guides.
• Guided nature walks.
• Arranged directly in camp only, and subject to vehicle availability, it may be possible to include a visit to one of the local villages.
• Log-pile hide at a small mud wallow within walking distance of camp.
• Visit and interact with the Zimbabwe Parks, Wildlife Management Authority (ZPWMA) and the Scorpion Anti-Poaching Unit who work in partnership with Wilderness (subject to availability with the duration approximately 45 minutes to 1.0 hour for the experience).
Accommodation
Davison’s offers the most affordable way to enjoy a Hwange private concession experience. Beneath the ancient false mopane trees, the shady camp with its adjacent waterhole attracts large numbers of animals, especially thirsty herds of elephant in the dry season.
