Lodge Description

Purpose
Along the Park’s southern boundary, many mammals fall victim to snaring. Thus our partnership with the Scorpions AntiPoaching Unit – which includes conducting patrols and removing snares – is critical in aiding the survival of Hwange’s wildlife.

Place
Little Makalolo lies in one of Hwange’s most ecologically-diverse areas, ensuring both variety and numbers of animals year round. A large number of waterholes attracts game from far and wide, and with one in front of camp, wildlife activity can even be enjoyed from the pool or your breakfast table or, more intimately, from the camp’s log-pile hide. Game drives, walks and cultural activities sometimes end at our “pizza stop” at Madison Pan, where a Star Bed is ready for your sleep out under the stars.

Overview
Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest and most popular national park where our Makalolo and Linkwasha concessions offer some of the best game viewing in Africa. The Zambezi River’s exceptional variety of spectacular scenery is home to one of the world’s Natural Wonders, the Victoria Falls, while downriver, our concession lies in Mana Pools National Park, renowned for its superb wildlife viewing and vistas.

Wildlife
Hwange National Park covers some 1.4 million hectares and supports a mix of habitats. This diverse area is shared between desert-adapted and woodland species, ensuring large numbers of animals all year round – elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and even gemsbok.
