Your Guide - Pilot Manga
Throughout your journey, you will be accompanied by naturalist and expert guide, Pilatwe Manga, known across Botswana as ‘Pilot’—a nickname given due to the similarity of his name to Pontius Pilate from the Bible. A true Motswana (citizen of Botswana), Pilot offers an authentic, in-depth perspective on his homeland, ensuring an unforgettable safari experience.
Born in Shorobe, a small village on the edge of the Okavango Delta, Pilot’s early years were spent deep in the wilderness, living at a remote cattle post and attending Shorobe Primary School. Shopping trips with his parents involved traveling to Maun by mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe. Following the passing of his father, Pilot was unable to continue his education and took on the responsibility of supporting his family.
His deep connection to the Okavango Delta led him to work alongside the founder of Wilderness Safaris, becoming the first local guide ever employed by the company. To this day, he remains close friends with its founder. Over the years, he has guided safaris across Botswana’s national parks and private reserves, working as an Explorer guide for Wilderness Safaris and traveling to safari destinations in Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. His guiding experience even took him beyond Africa once—to Canada for a Polar Bear Safari, his only trip outside the continent.
With his wealth of knowledge, keen sense of adventure, and warm personality, Pilot ensures his guests have exceptional wildlife encounters and world-class service. A highly resourceful guide, accomplished mechanic, and talented chef, he is the perfect companion to lead you through the stunning landscapes of Botswana.
Accommodation
Kwetsani Camp
Discover the Delta by land and water.
With direct access to the Delta’s waters and the open floodplains, Wilderness Kwetsani promises adventure and discovery. Explore the wetlands by boat or traditional mokoro. Here hippos and crocs dwell, and red lechwe and rare sitatunga leap across the channels. Keep a keen eye out for plains game such as giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and impalas, plus, of course, their predators.
Qorokwe Camp
Wild. Exquisite. Immersive. Qorokwe Camp in Botswana is a magnet for dramatic wildlife sightings.
Qorokwe’s private wilderness area borders the renowned Moremi Game Reserve, famous for intense predator-prey encounters. Prepare for thrilling game drives tracking leopards in the wild. Spot a lioness hunting alone, closely watched by a pack of skulking hyenas, as the air vibrates with birdsong.
Savuti Camp
An enchanting safari on the Savuti.
Savuti means ‘mystery,’ and the fascination with this wild, unpredictable channel has attracted travellers and explorers for years. Depending on imperceptible shifts in plate tectonics, the waters of the Savuti either flow strongly – attracting thirsty wildlife – or ebb, revealing grassy plains where antelope gather, attracting predators. For now, the channel flows right past Wilderness Savuti, which is perfectly positioned for an exceptional safari experience with incredible opportunities for land and water-based game viewing.
Little Makololo
A signature Zimbabwean safari camp in a classic Southern African setting.
Up-close animal encounters. Thrilling sightings. Exclusive access. Little Makalolo offers an unrivalled safari experience in Hwange National Park, where the wonderful, wild scenery is matched by unforgettable wildlife sightings in this remote, exclusive region of Zimbabwe.
