Lodge Description

Purpose
Little Tubu is part of the Tubu Joint Management Committee, currently facilitating the creation of a community-based cultural village and tourism venture.

Place
Little Tubu is situated on Hunda Island, next to its sister camp, Tubu Tree, connected to it by boardwalks. Hunda Island, the largest dry land environment in this area, hosts a mix of diverse habitats, ensuring a varied game viewing experience. Activities include day and night game drives through productive mopane and acacia woodlands. During winter (May to late September), boating, seasonal fishing and mokoro trips are also offered.

Overview
Situated in the very heart of the wetlands of the Okavango Delta, the 60 000-hectare (150 000-acre) Jao Concession embodies all the magic and mystique of Botswana with vegetation that varies from permanent swamps to dry land. On its western side, the area is dryer than the east, and Hunda Island, which is the tip of a large 'sand tongue,' is the largest area of dry land in the Jao Concession during the inundation (July-September). Hunda Island has sandveld vegetation providing excellent browsing for herds such as large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra with others such as giraffe and elephant seen too. Birding in the Jao Concession is exceptional, with the western drier areas hosting crimson-breasted shrike, Dickinson’s kestrel and Meyer’s parrot. Other exciting species in Jao include swamp nightjar and brown fire finch.

Wildlife
The area is a combination of open grasslands, dry forest and shallow floodplains. Wildlife seen around Little Tubu includes elephant, lion, Burchell's zebra, red lechwe, southern giraffe, tsessebe, and blue wildebeest on the floodplains. Kudu, impala, bushbuck and leopard are also seen in the forested areas. The variety of birdlife is impressive, with dry-land species seen on the larger islands and a multitude of wetland birds seen on the floodplains and waterways.

Accommodation
Little Tubu has just three traditional-style tents; these and the main area are shaded by a riverine tree canopy and look out over a seasonal riverbed, which ebbs and flows with the passage of a variety of wildlife. Close by is a Star Bed for sleep-outs under the African sky.
Number of Tents
This camp can accommodate 6 guests
3 x units in total comprising; 3 x twin-bedded canvas tents each with two three quarter beds (separate mattresses with shared base); Mattress converters are available that transforms twin beds into king-size beds. To be arranged prior to arrival.
