Chitabe Lediba Camp

Okavango Delta, Chitabe Private Concession

Luxury Family

From US$1,480

Lodge Description

Chitabe Lediba, in the Chitabe Concession, neighbours the Moremi Game Reserve in the south-eastern part of the Okavango Delta. Its wide range of habitats makes for an equal diversity of wildlife sightings.

Chitabe Lediba is smaller than its sister camp, Chitabe, and is ideal for small groups or families. Views over the waterhole give ample opportunities to watch the daily animal traffic. Beyond the camp, Okavango and Kalahari landscapes meet to form rich habitats.

Both family units have adjoining bedrooms and a shared en-suite bathroom. All five spacious Meru-style tents are built on raised decks, from which outdoor showers offer panoramic views of the Delta. The dining area, lounge and pool have a glorious vantage over the small lediba (a remnant lagoon that has become a waterhole) after which the camp is named and where wild animals and birds frequently come to drink.

3 x twin-bedded luxury canvas tented rooms each with two three quarter beds; 2 x family luxury canvas tented units each consisting of 2 rooms, with their own bathroom and entrance, separated by a board walk and sharing a deck.

Wildlife
The area is a combination of open grasslands, acacia woodland and shallow waterways. Game viewing is varied from the lush green period after the rains to the dry winter months when plains game numbers peak. Buffalo, elephant, lion, warthog, lechwe, hippo, giraffe, leopard, cheetah and tsessebe are found throughout the year. Wild dog are frequently seen in the concession.

Overview
The 28 000-hectare (69 000-acre) Chitabe Concession, situated in the south-east of the Okavango Delta, is separated from the well-known Moremi Game Reserve by the Gomoti Channel. This eastern half of the concession is characterised by grassy floodplains which separate the Channel from acacia and mopane woodland. The western half of the concession has as its boundary the Santantadibe River and here a variety of typical Okavango habitats – seasonal palm-dotted floodplains, to wooded islands, tranquil waterways and dry woodland – ensure a year-round variety of game viewing and birding experiences. It is this diversity and a mix of Okavango and Kalahari habitats that makes Chitabe unique and which allows good concentrations of all the larger predators – lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, cheetah and wild dog – as well as herbivores like giraffe, buffalo, lechwe, tsessebe, impala, zebra, hippo and elephant.
