Zimbabwe Classic Safari

The superb luxury safari takes in the incredible Hwange National Park, the superb Mana Pools National Park and finishes in Victoria Falls on the Zambian side of the river.

This ‘Classic’ Camp Safari starts at the superb Little Makololo Camp in the heart of Hwange National Park in its own small, private concession. In an area packed with wildlife, especially Elephants, your activities will be full of incredible sightings so make sure you have plenty of memory for your camera.

Your second location lies in a large private concession bordering Mana Pools National Park with stunning views out over the floodplains of the Zambezi River at Ruckomechi Camp. A great place to do walking safaris but also motorboat cruises and game drives with a great chance to see African Wild Dog and Lion and the certainty of many Hippo.

Your final destination is is the Zambian side of Victoria Falls at Toka Leya Camp. Located inside the Mosi-ao-Tunya National Park which is full of wildlife, you will the chance to track Rhino's on foot, take cruises on the river and have a tour of the falls.

Accommodation

Little Makololo Camp

Little Makalolo lies in the heart of one of the best game viewing areas in Hwange National Park. Overlooking a vibrant waterhole, it offers privacy for guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness. The camp's six traditional-style tents – including a family unit – are spacious and en-suite, with indoor and outdoor showers. Solar power is used for tent lights and to heat water, ensuring a lighter environmental footprint.

Ruckomechi Camp

Situated in a large private concession in the heart of the Zambezi Valley’s Mana Pools National Park, Ruckomechi looks out from the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. It is a remote, beautiful place with spectacular views of the broad flowing river, the adjacent woodland and the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment. Ten spacious and beautifully decorated en-suite tents, including two family rooms, lie beneath the ana trees, best-beloved of local elephant for their nutritious seeds.

Toka Leya Camp

Overlooking islands in the mighty Zambezi River, Toka Leya offers the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure; ideal for the beginning or end of your African safari. Morning explorations of the river, the surrounding Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or nearby Victoria Falls can be followed by a tranquil afternoon at our spa or practicing inspired yoga on the panoramic deck of our gym.

Itinerary

Days 1 to 4: Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe

Little Makololo Camp

You will be met at Victoria Falls Airport by a representative and escorted to your light Aircraft for the flight to Hwange National Park. Your first Camp is Little Makololo, a superb place to experience Hwange from with superb accommodation, service and food. The wildlife is stunning and in particular Elephants are in abundance but with plenty of general game Predators are pretty common. The opportunity to sleep under the stars is here but only if they have availability.

Days 4 to 7: Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe

Ruckomechi Camp

After a morning activity you will fly to Mana Pools which will take around two hours with view of the world's largest man-made lake, Lake Kariba being a highlight. On arrival at the airstrip your guide will be waiting for you to take you into camp, which is a short drive. After a briefing from the camp management you can take part in an afternoon activity. Here in Mana Pools the wildlife is excellent with regular sightings of African Wild Dog and Lion being a highlight but the Elephants here are well known and very relaxed and can occasionally be approached very close on foot and in your vehicle.

Days 7 to 10: Mosi-ao-Tunya National park, Zambia

Toka Leya Camp

After a morning activity you will fly to Victoria Falls Airport where you will be met for a road transfer across the border to Toka Leya in Zambia, whcih is a short drive. Toka Leya lies in the Mosi-ao-Tunya National Park which is famous for its Rhino population which you can track on foot but activities are varied with the chance to do others including a flight of the angels and white rafting at extra cost. The camp looks out over the river with superb service and food, a great place to start or finish your safari.
