Island Bush Camp
Bordering National Park
Set under the shade of ancient mahogany trees on the banks of the Luangwa River, our authentic Zambian bush camp is the gateway to one of the most remote and unspoilt areas of South Luangwa National Park. Island Bush Camp offers a pure wilderness experience with walking safaris at the core of its activities. You will have the park to yourself!
AN UNSPOILED WILDERNESS
The drive to Island Bush Camp will take you through woodlands and riverine landcapes, while passing through a couple of authentic villages. At the camp, the views stretch from the Chindeni hills in the Eastern corners of the Luangwa Valley, to the Muchinga escarpment in the West, presenting the complete natural boundary of this remote and achingly beautiful wilderness. Every day offers new and unique experiences.

BUSH CAMP AREA
The shady lounge is the heart of the camp, with comfortable chairs and a welcoming bar looked after by our friendly staff. All you have to do is relax, binoculars at hand, and observe the many “passers-by” on the riverfront. Watch the fall and the rise of the sun from the fireplace, marvel at the galaxy of stars, listen to the sounds of the wild and let our guides entertain you with their witty bush tales.
BUSH CAMP CHALETS
Set high on wooden platforms, the five bush chalets are completely open to the front, offering views over the river and allowing for the sounds of the bush to drift through, undisturbed. Enjoy the tasteful and natural style of the decoration and observe the hippos in the river while taking a warm shower before a restful night under tented mozzie nets.
This is where the magical art of camp cooking takes place - turning a variety of ingredients into delicious plates of food with wood burning stove and minimal equipment. One of our guests’ favourite moments at Island Bush Camp is when they are given a tour of this bush kitchen by our chef – we call it the “kitchen safari”.
Walking safaris are our main activity in this pristine place, a chance to explore the bush on a different level. Under the guidance of our professional guides and escorted by an armed park scout, you’ll embark on a slow-paced wander looking for different wildlife species and taking the time to hear about nature’s wonders too often overlooked on game drives. Exploring the bush on foot, being on the ground in the vicinity of wild animals is exhilarating and should not be missed.
